Benjamin Wieler is a resident of Toronto with Southern Ontario roots. He received a scholarship from the Art Gallery of Toronto for summer studies in their studios after high school and followed it with a diploma in Fashion & Design at Sheridan College. After a number of years in the garment & textile industry he chose to focus on an independent art practice working within a handmade philosophy. His work can be found in private homes & commercial spaces in Canada, USA, UK, & the Middle East.

This is work from a series titled “What I Did Last Summer.” Sculptural mixed media origami constructions working within themes of weather phenomena and zero waste methodology in using a dwindling source of available supplies during the time of covid. Square sheets of Japanese gold foil paper painted with watercolour, cut into squares, half-squares, smaller squares, thick strips & thin strips, manipulated into shape with folds & curls before being arranged into colour gradients.
