“Flora Celeste”
Kidner Gallery’s “Flora Celeste” exhibition brings together the intricate and luminous work of contemporary Korean artist, Cecilia Park, where botanical forms unfold into something at once earthly and celestial. Delicate flowers, constellations and organic patterns emerge through layers of colour, gesture and finely drawn line, creating richly textured worlds that seem to exist somewhere between the garden and the cosmos. Working with acrylic and mixed media on Hanji, Park builds her surfaces through an extraordinary accumulation of marks— each detail contributing to an atmosphere that is both intimate and expansive. Her flowers appear less as representations of nature than as living, evolving forms: blooming, dispersing and transforming across the picture plane. Flora Celeste invites us to look closely and enter these intricate worlds where the language of flowers meets the infinite.
Cecilia Park’s unique interpretation of flowers and botanical forms reflect influences of her roots in both the east and west, the harmonious blending of two distinct cultures. With striking colour combinations, fine detailing, and organic patterns that emerge through layers of colour, gesture and finely drawn lines, Ceclia creates rich textured worlds that seem to exist somewhere between the garden and the cosmos. Her chosen medium includes water colour, acrylic, oils, and Indian ink on rice paper or directly on stretched canvas. Hers is a craft that has been finely developed over forty years. Cecilia grew up in South Korea and at a young age was deeply influenced by the people around her who saw her talent and encouraged her drawings and paintings. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Hyosung University, studying graphic design. After marrying, Cecilia came to Canada where she obtained a second Bachelor of Fine Arts at Montreal’s Concordia University. Over the course of her artistic career Cecilia taught art, ceramics and ribbon flower making, and from 1973- 1984 owned and ran an Art studio. Cecilia has won several awards and recognitions, including most recently: Next Generation Arts: Jury’s Choice Award, and the Joshua Farm Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition. Cecelia has had over twenty solo exhibitions and various group exhibitions in Korea, Canada, Italy, France and United States. Her paintings hang in private homes, businesses, and universities in Canada and internationally. Her last solo show at Kidner Gallery was “Reawakening” in 2023.
