Kersti Meema began her photographic journey using a film camera at an early age which gave her a solid basis for understanding how an image can be produced from what is seen through the viewfinder. With her background in biology, Kersti’s photography is inspired by the wonders of nature around us, from breathtaking landscapes and the magnificent creatures that inhabit this world, to a macro view of dynamic objects such as water drops and snowflakes. From within this natural world she captures intriguing perspectives of the fleeting moments around us. More recently, she has explored an impressionistic approach through imaginative use of colour palettes combined with line and shape transformations to take those moments in her nature photography into the realm of the abstract.
Kersti’s work has been displayed in group shows in the Dignam Gallery, Papermill Gallery and the Clark Centre for the Arts, all in Toronto. She has had images and the stories behind the photographs published in the American magazine Nature Photographer. More recently her work was featured in the 2022 Contact Photography Festival “Forest Spaces” and has two images in the SPARK Photo Festival 2023 Juried Exhibit in April 2023. She is presently the president of the Beach Photo Club in Toronto.
